Are you a style planner?

One thing that has struck me as a trend in the weird and wonderful world of instagram is the regular pictures of bloggers 'planning' outfits and preparing every inch of their aesthetic in advance.

Up until recently, I only heavily invested time laying out and planning an outfit for large occasions and nights out, but now I have noticed I am increasingly planning outfits for daytime. I don't spend hours, it's usually more deciding what I will wear the night before-especially if I have an early lecture-and to insure I don't spend my whole life in jeans and a hoody. I suppose I'm noticing it more at University as I don't have a strict uniform to adhere to any more. Maybe it is the new found liberty of not wearing a restricting, not to mention unflattering, school shirt and overly sensible shoes. Anyway, enough of school-tie-loaded nostalgia and onto the point of this post; my question to you. I'm curious to know do your plan your everyday outfits or let spontaneity guide you through?

And in the meantime I look forward to seeing what you plan on instagram!

  1. I've noticed these pictures too and honestly I think it's such a good idea. When I drag myself out of bed and don't have much time, it's either a tea dress and tights or jeans and a tee shirt. When I have more time I can have a look through my wardrobe properly, but these occurrences are few and far between as I usually choose to spend more time in bed, haha. I really should prepare my outfits the night before, it would make things so much easier!

  2. Oh..I wish I planned more. But then I don't have any major events to go to, anymore. I love your owl necklace. I had to invest in one myself. I'd gotten one for a friend at Christmas because she's a First grade teacher and her theme this year was owls so I found a necklace and thought, these are just so cool.

    You are very inspiring!

  5. Spontaneity guides me! For me it's easiest to make spontaneous choices when my wardrobe only contains a small number of items that I love wearing. I regularly get rid of anything old, no longer in use as these pieces would make spontaneous (or even planned) decisions more difficult. xo

  16. Oh this is absolutely me all over! I agree - University has definitely played a key contribution to this - if I don't have even a rough idea of what I want to wear I end up running horrifically late for everything!

Thanks for the comment on my post, I'm in now in love with your blog! Looking forward to seeing more of your posts in my feed :)

  17. I hardly ever plan what I am going to wear, unless I am doing something out of the ordinary or have a night out for a special occasion. I'm going out for my housemates birthday tomorrow night but I still haven't decided what I should put on!

  23. I'm really rubbish at planning outfits - I usually just throw stuff that morning depending on what mood I'm in or what ideas come to me. Whenever I try to plan outfits for big events like LFW I just get myself into a tizz and change my mind at the last minute anyway!

  24. I definitely used to always plan my wardrobe the night before even before instagram and all that, especially when I was going to school because I wanted to look "cool", haha. Now that I'm just at university, I dress way more boring than I've ever dressed and I'm somewhat in a style rut. I mainly wear clothing with lots of color but in the same old form: jeans and a top. I really need to switch it up! :)

  25. I have always been really had at planning every day outfits, I pretty much only do it if I've bought something new that I really look forward to wearing. But I am great at planning outfits for special occasions :)

  26. I loosely plan outfits the night before for almost everyday (especially big events), but it's mainly so I don't run out of time in the morning trying to think of what to wear haha it gives me a little extra time to sleep in :)

  27. I almost always plan my outfits the day before. That way I can dress in automatic in the morning when I'm tired. It also helps me to not be late to work. BTW, these two outfits you posted are so cute, I especially love the neklace of the second outfit and how it pops against the LBD :)
