Hair and Make-up how to: Jessica Chastain at the Oscars

It's been a short while since the Oscars but I've had this post planned for ages and thought it would be a shame to disregard it. This brings me onto my apology; sorry that I have disappeared off the blogosphere for over a week, I've been quite busy with uni work but the Easter holidays are coming up so I've got lots of great posts planned (and maybe even a few videos!).
I always love looking at the Oscars' beauty trends for looks to replicate on nights out. This year I loved Jessica Chastain's simple, elegant and timeless hair and make-up, which was inspired by the 40's and old Hollywood. Here is my take on the look.

The Make-up;

Step One: Prep your skin by applying moisturiser, followed by a smoothing  primer (I love the L'Oreal primer),  and then your chosen foundation and powder. I'm using Clinique Stay Matte foundation and my trusty Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder. Then dust an icy/shimmering white shade all over your eyelids. I'm using the white shade from my Accessorize palette. Jessica's eyes had a slight golden shade on the inner corners. Use your smallest finger to apply this, gently dabbing in the inner corners, then blend. I used the gold shade from my Accessorize palette.

Step Two: Apply black gel or liquid liner very close to your top lash line. Build up definition around you longer lashes, like Jessica's eye make-up. I'm using Maybelline gel eyeliner in 'Intense Black'.

Step Three: The rest of Jessica's eyes are simply outlined. I used Maybelline Smoky Eyes pencil eyeliner in 'Brown' to line my lower lash line and the inner corners of the upper lid.

Step Four: Jennifer is wearing false lashes and I particularly love Eyelure Naturalites in '101' for this look. However to create this look I used a  mascara instead. Clinique High Intense Extreme Volume Mascara is a wonder. I built up the mascara in  layers using a lash comb to get out excess clumps.

Step Five: Apply concealer under the eyes and to blemishes and blend in. I'm using Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory.

Step Six: Apply a peachy shade of blusher to the apples of your cheeks in a swirling motion.

Step Seven: Apply a stroke of highlighter to your cheeks and then blend in for Jessica's shimmering cheeks. I'm a big fan of Benefit High Beam.

Step Eight: Fill in brows with a subtle colour that is similar to your original brow colour. I swear by Benefit Brow Zings wax. Them groom with with a brow brush.

Step Nine: Line the edge of your lips with a lip liner. I use Maybelline Colour Sensational in Hollywood red, the same shade as my lipstick.

Step Ten: Fill in your lips with an intense red colour.

The hair;

Step One: Style hair into a side parting and spray with a heat protection spray. Tie hair up leaving a small section from the under layers of your hair down, as shown in the picture. I'm using the Babyliss Pro Curl 210 curling tong which has a smaller barrel as my hair is shorter than Jessica's so the the curls will be tighter but to recreate the look fully I recommend Babyliss Glamour Waves curling tong. Take a small section of hair and place the end of the section between the clamps before winding the tong upwards in a spiral motion. Hold for ten-twelve seconds and then release the section of hair.

Step Two: Repeat step one until one section is done. Then let hair loose  and re-tie the bobble again, leaving another layer down and repeat the motion of using the curling tongs on this section.

Step Three: Repeat step two until all of your hair is curled.

Step Four: I have already explained that this will differ slightly to Jessica's look due to my hair length and cut. I curled my fringe even though Jessica doesn't have one, but by curling it I really get the loose, side swept curls effect.

Step Five: Run your hair brush through the curls. Then apply serum to smooth the hair and define the curls. I always use Aussie Curl Definition serum.

Step Six: Set the hair back, like Jessica's and apply hairspray for hold.

The results?

Academy Awards 2013 Style

Time to put the razzle dazzle on. Last night, as I'm sure you do not need me to tell you, was the Academy Awards, or Oscars, if you prefer. Ah yes, the end of February sees the grand finale of the awards season, and what a season it's been. From rumoured dress malfunctions (yes, that Dior dress was meant to have a split effect), to well deserved wins (what a win for Christophe Waltz, if you haven't seen Django Unchained yet I urge you to!), the Academy Awards is the cherry on top of the cake. It's not just about what goes on in the theatre though, the world's attention is captivated by the fabulousness of the famous route in; the red carpet. Year after year everyone from emerging starlets to Hollywood heavyweights dresses to impress. This year? No different. Here are my top five 2013 Oscar looks.

 Jennifer Lawrence in Dior, Anne Hathaway in Prada, Olivia Munn in Marchesa, Amanda Seyfried in Alexander McQueen and Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive.

What was your favourite look of the night?

BAFTAs Style 2013

A crimson carpet, sunshine-yellow gowns, a large volume of umbrellas and Stephen Fry. It could only mean one thing; the annual British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, or BAFTAs, if you prefer. I do love films and fashion so, being British, the BAFTAs are a real treat for me. I must admit though I wasn't overwhelmed this year with the red carpet fashion but here are my top, stylish, leading ladies.

Monochrome, a key Spring trend, was rife on the red carpet. I particularly loved Elizabeth Olsen's dress. The pattern, texture and cut add a fresh take to a trend that has been overdone time and time again. The simple, natural make-up and the loose side-swept curls are ideal for letting this fabulous dress take centre stage.

This is just the perfect hue for Jessica Chastain's fair complexion and auburn hair. The silky material of the dress compliments the luxurious sapphire tone. This is how you make an impact the understated way. The dress and accessories don't scream for attention but the elegant cut and simplicity of the dress attain all the attention Jessica deserves.

Va va voom! Andrea Riseborough makes a very playful colour sexy and classy at the same time. There's no missing her in vivid yellow but Andrea guarantees that all eyes will be on her with the curve-emphasising shape of this gown. The hair is perfect for the dramatic dress, up with loose sections for a laid-back edge to juxtapose the gown.

I won't tell a lie; I've seen a lot better from Jennifer Lawrence. There is no denying that she is a beauty though and this dress is stunning. The pale pink of the dress is so soft and the embellishment adds instant glamour and a fun edge to the dress. Just like Elizabeth, the accessories are genius as they allow full attention to be on the dress. It pains me to say this, but I do dislike the hair as it is very non-descript. In my opinion, a messy up do would have been perfect to contrast the femininity of the dress.

Oh, Marion Cottilard. Just like Andrea, Marion uses a striking colour to brighten up the gloomy, grey skies of London, that seem to be inevitable at the BAFTAs. Colour aside, the leading credential of this dress is the innovative shape and mesh slit (not seen in the picture). A fresh twist on a peplum, if you will. Truth be told Marion would look beautiful in anything and her amazing bone stricture is displayed by her chic up-do.

When Anne Hathaway first showcased her pixie crop I wasn't quite sure. She still looked stunning but, in my humble opinion, longer hair suited her better. And then the BAFTAs happened. Now she has grown into it I love it! The side swept fringe is perfect for Anne's features and the dress is simple and classic, whilst the top embellishment sparkles up the dress. On a beauty note I love how Anne has opted for a soft, berry shade of lipstick rather than red lipstick, which would be fairly stock for this outfit. Loving the book clutch too.

I got bitten by the blog bug!

A huge thanks to Lulu over at 'Hey it's Lulu' for nominating me for this award.You should definitely check out her blog, it's fab!

1) When and Why did you start blogging? I started blogging a few years ago, under a different name and on a different blog, The Natwalk. I really enjoyed it and as an aspiring writer it was a great place to practise my skills. In the end that kinda trailed off though-posts were few and far between and I wasn't that proud if it. This blog is very new, I only started it this Summer, after a holiday inspired me to go for it and pursue my passion :)

2) What do you love to blog about and why do you like it? Fashion, beauty, culture, my life. It's just a general mismatch! I love having the chance to write about what I want and post my thoughts, opinions and pics. One thing I would like to do more of is outfit posts-watch this space.

3) How did you get your blog name? I couldn't think of anything-I just used my initials and it kind of stuck.

 4) What do you think is your best post yet? I don't have many to choose from, NG being fairly new. I  would have to say it's probably my most recent post 'New York Fashion Week S/S 2013'. I put a lot of work in editing the pictures and I think it was probably one of the better written pieces. I'm planning to do a similar post for London, Milan and Paris fashion week-will have to find a window of time during freshers week!!

5) What is your inspiration for blogging at present? This is going to say cliche but anything and everything. Pictures I see, articles and blogs I read, people I meet, places I visit, the list goes on.

6) Message for your readers- Thankyou so much to all my readers! I get so excited seeing a new follower or comment, getting feedback is one of the best things about blogging. That's another reason I love blogging so much-it connects you to people around the world from different cultures and with unique styles, I find that so interesting. People reading my blog really are my motivation so I owe a lot to you!

The six bloggers I would like to award;
